Loving the Prophet (sallallahu ‘aleyhi wasalam)

Written by: Kaltun Ali

Asalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu dear Brothers and Sisters,

I greet you with the greetings of the people of Jannah, may Allah make us amongst those who will enjoy Allah’s mercy and bounty in the hereafter Insha’Allah.

I want to share a small reminder, a reminder for myself first and then for my fellow Muslims.

Bismillah…

I just wanted everyone to stop for a moment and contemplate after reading my reminder, how much the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu ‘aleyhi wasalam) loved us. Forget about how much WE should love him; we are going to discuss how much HE loved us, the Prophet of Allah, the slave of Allah, the Khatiman-Nabi.

In a famous hadith which was narrated by Anas ibn Malik:

“Sahaba: Why are you crying, oh Messenger of Allah?

Prophet SAW: I miss my brothers

Sahaba: Are we not your brothers, oh Messenger of Allah?

Prophet SAW: No, you are my Companions. My brothers are those who will come after me and they believe in me without seeing me.”

Are you taking notice of what the Prophet has referred to us? His brothers and he said that he missed us. We must be thankful that Allah has chosen us to be part of Muhammad’s (sallallahu ‘aleyhi wasalam) Ummah. For the best of Ummahs was the ummah of Muhammad (Muslim).

So what is the point of this hadeeth? My point is that we must love the Prophet of Allah. We must appreciate him, his character, his mannerisms, his advices, his messages, his warnings, and his promises. We must teach ourselves to love each other for the sake of Allah so we can grow love for our Prophet. Those who love the Prophet hold the characteristics of Eeman and have Taqwa of Allah (swt). As the Messenger – sallallaahu ‘aleyhi wasalam – said:

‘None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his son, his father and all mankind.’ (Bukhari and Muslim)

And indeed if you love Muhammad – sallallaahu ‘aleyhi wasalam – then you have gained the love of Allah. Allah says in a Hadeeth Qudsi:

‘And My slave does not come closer to Me except with that which is more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him, My slave continues to come closer to Me with the optional deeds until I love him, if I love him I will be his hearing with which he hears, and the sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips and the leg with which he walks, and if he asks Me I will definitely give it, and if he seeks refuge then I will definitely give him sanctuary…’.

So, I will leave you with a couple How-To’s to worship Allah by loving the Prophet sallallaahu ‘aleyhi wasalam:

  1. Learning the Seerah of the Prophet
  2. Following the Sunnah of the Prophet
  3. Taking the Ahadeeth as guides (authentic hadeeth)

Brothers and Sisters if you follow the Prophet, do and say as he did, then bi’ithnillah, Allah will grant you Jannah. You will be with those you have loved in the dunya. So love the Prophet if you want to be with him!

This small advice I have shared is a reminder to me first and then to my fellow Muslims. Anything that I have said wrong, know it is from Shaytan (and I seek refuge from him) and anything I have said right, know that it is from the ni’ma of Allah (swt). Let’s continue to love one another, to forgive one another, and help one another. Wa-BillahiTawfiq.

Barakallahu Feekum and Asalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuhu.
