Midweek Motivation: You’ll Get Through It!

Written by: Idil Mohamed

Asalamu alaykum! I hope school is going well everyone. As a student, I know this time of year can be really stressful. I’ve noticed there are less students in my classes and I’ve heard things like “I hate school” or “School is really stressing me out” more times than I can count. In times like this, the best thing to do is to make du’aa (personal supplication) to Allah The Almighty. Don’t feel weird about asking Allah to help you get through the year and make school easier for you. Du’aa is not only about asking Allah to give you a righteous spouse or get into grad school. You can make du’aa for anything! We are free to ask Him for ANYTHING we want! He tells us to ask him, so why hesitate?

Allow me to share the example of the Prophet Zakariyya (Zachariah) peace be upon him:

“This is a reminder of blessings that your Lord bestowed on his servant Zakariyya. When he invoked his Lord in secret. Saying: Oh Lord! Surely my bones have weakened and the hair of my head glisten with grey. While I have never been disappointed in my prayer to You, oh Lord! Yet I fear about my relatives after me, for my wife is barren, grant me a heir by Your Grace who should inherit me and inherit the posterity of Ya’qub (Jacob), and make him, oh my Lord, a desirable person!” (Quran, 19: 2-6).

We should take a lesson from this. Zakariyya, despite being extremely old, was asking Allah to grant him a son. Additionally, he made this du’aa even though his wife was unable to have children and never had any throughout their marriage. Imagine that! Zakariyya was asking for something that sounded impossible. Yet, he did not lose hope and thought well of his Lord. If Zakariyya can ask Allah for something seemingly impossible, we can ask Allah to help us with our studies! He can grant our du’aas just like he granted Zakariyya’s!

Don’t give up! Our Lord says, “I am as my servant expects Me to be, and I am with him when he remembers me. If he thinks of Me, I think of him” (Sahih Al-Bukhari). Think well of Allah and have hope that He will aid you.

So I hope you’ve been motivated to ask Allah to help you get through school as the school-year comes to an end. Find a way to motivate yourself. Work hard, go to class, and do not forget Allah. There’s only about two months left. InshaAllah you’ll get through it! May Allah make it easy for all of us. Ameen.
