With Hardship Always Comes Ease

Written by: Basma Elbahnasawy

Allah (swt) states in Surah Al Sharh, “إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا” translating to “Verily, with hardship there is relief” (Qur’an 94:6).

Many beautiful stories in the holy Qur’an display this. Allah (swt) says in Surah Yusuf “We relate to you, “O Muhammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur’an although you were, before it, among the unaware” (Surah Yusuf 12:3).

One of the stories, is the beautiful story of Prophet Yusuf (pbuh). In short, the plot of the story is as follows: Prophet Yusuf (pbuh) lived all his life confronting schemes made by the people closest to him; his brothers plotted to kill him. However, they later amended it to exiling him. This occurred to him while he was a boy. He was soon sold into the slave market in Egypt. Prophet Yusuf later was a victim to the attempted seduction by a great man’s wife who, when her wish was foiled, sent him to prison, where he remained for some time.

In spite of all of this, he later approached close to the Egyptian throne and became the king’s chief minister. He then began his call to Allah (swt) from the position of the ruling authority.

Subhan’Allah, Prophet Yusuf (pbuh) needed to go through all of these hardships of being left by his brothers, sold in a market and thrown unjustly in jail in order to reach the point of great ease. He believed in Allah (swt) throughout his test and remained away from all of Haram that came across his path. Therefore, he passed the test that Allah (swt) placed before him; reaching the point of ease.

Similarly in life we will all go through hardships and tests, however remember that Allah (swt) does not leave his true believers misguided.

“There, the (only) protection comes from Allah, the True One. He is the Best to reward, and the Best to give success” (Surah Al Kahf 18:44).

Whatever hardships may face you, remember the story of Prophet Yusuf (pbuh). Remember that Allah (swt) did not leave his side, because he continued to remember Allah (swt).

Alhamdulilah for everything. 🙂
